How long does a finish typically last?
Furniture finishes can last up to 25 years if properly maintained. Other items that are used daily, like kitchen cabinets, have different wear and tear so the time may decrease.

Can an existing finish be changed to a different color without stripping?
It can be darkened. The key criteria in answering this question are the condition of the existing finish and the compatibility of the new finish with the old.
